Landfill gas-to-energy plans get approved

The News-Register staff

Riverbend Landfill's plans for its long-touted gas-to-energy plant at its McMinnville facility have been approved by the Yamhill County Planning Department.

The facility, geared to provide power for up to 2,000 local homes in a joint agreement with McMinnville Water & Light, would be located on about 26 acres on the east end of the property.

Riverbend is also asking Yamhill County to approve a 109-acre expansion on the west end of the Highway 19 facility, although construction of the gas-to-energy facility does not depend on that.

Having received approval by Planning Department Director Mike Brandt, the plan is now subject to a brief appeals window, during which it could be challenged before county commissioners.

Copies of the design are available at the Planning Department in McMinnville, 525 N.E. Fourth St.
